Research has shown that homelessness and social needs are serious issues that must be addressed across the world. According to Covenant House Institute, a leading organization in the fight against homelessness, every year, more than 2 Million kids in America will face a period of homelessness. The same organization revealed that 40% of this category of people are under 18 years of age. And 57% of homeless kids spend at least one day every month without food. In Nigeria, the Federal Mortgage Bank disclosed that over 68 million of citizens are either homeless or improperly housed. Furthermore, the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS) recently put the nation’s housing shortage at almost 20 million, a situation that has been described as unhealthy for a developing nation.
At the BAF, we understand the challenges of solving the problem of homelessness and hunger across the world, yet, we strongly believes that every contribution counts. We also believe that creating access to social net/charitable services to the less/underprivileged should not be the burden of the government alone. Therefore, BAF intends to partner with individuals, agencies and organizations to provide necessary and needed services to the less/underprivileged in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area and in Africa. BAF’s charitable services will include but not limited to:
Periodically providing foods and other items (e.g. shoes, clothing, toys, educational materials, etc.) to homeless individuals, motherless babies and orphanages across the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Area and in Africa.
Prevent teen pregnancies through counselling, education and training as well as providing available social resources to empower less and underprivileged teens.
Organize seminars, workshops and retreats; invite experience counselors and other social work professionals to deliver lectures and coaching to teens with the goal to changing vulnerable behaviors and previously held orientations.
