BAF
PROGRAM

Improve Healthcare Delivery

According to the United Nations Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF), Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is still the number two cause of death for those aged 10-19 globally–and-number one in Africa. UNICEF reveals that in Africa, accounts for about 70 per cent of people in the world living with HIV, 3 out of every 4 adolescents newly infected by HIV in 2015 were girls. According to Cappuccio and Miller, 2016, cardiovascular disease, including stroke, heart failure and kidney disease, has been common in Africa for many years, and rapid urbanization is causing an upsurge of ischemic heart disease and metabolic disorders with two-thirds of cardiovascular deaths now occurring in low and middle income countries.

Key to BAF’s mission is to support and enhance the delivery of equitable quality and safe healthcare services. BAF will achieve this by partnering with individuals, agencies, and other organizations of interest. Among the Board of directors, officers, and volunteers of BAF are successful medical practitioners and other healthcare providers (e.g. Medical Doctors and Nurses) in the U.S.A and across Africa. Utilizing their experiences and expertise, BAF will constantly carry out need gap analysis of the healthcare situations with the goal of identifying areas of healthcare needs of the less and under privileged populations. BAF will inspire and assist in the following areas:

  • BAF will partner with healthcare practitioners and providers in local communities to increase health awareness through organized campaigns. It will also carry out medical missions focusing on primary (i.e. health promotions), secondary (i.e. screening and early diagnosis), and tertiary (i.e. treatment and rehabilitation) in the United States and in countries across Africa.

  • Utilizing a “train the trainer” approach, BAF will sponsor the trainings of local healthcare workers to provide trainings and education to patients within the respected local communities.

  • BAF will partner international communities and agencies to provide basic equipment (X-ray, CT scan, MRI, laboratory, etc.) in order to facilitate adequate access to up-to-date and standardized diagnostic processes.

  • BAF will partner with medical professionals across the world to carry out an annual medical missions to Africa. During these missions, qualified medical professionals will provide an array of needed quality and safe medical services such as health screenings and promotion, surgical services, education and assisting local health professionals in capacity building in healthcare.
